Theo the Label brings a collection of sweatshop-free staples for the everyday wardrobe. They sell clothes, and it’s their business to know who makes them. Sweatshops are a no-no in their books so the brand only works with makers they can meet, greet and share honest to goodness relationships with.
The brand’s staples are those clothing items that never let you down, the ones you play unashamed favourites with and wear to death. Theo the Label staples are classic, unfussy and always comfortable as heck. They do menswear and womenswear and - sometimes we can’t tell which is which!
Theo the Label was launched as Jacob & Esau Clothing Company in 2014 when founders Esther Chin and Joanne Yu just couldn't find ethically-made yet affordable clothing options to support their growing values around fair labour in the fashion industry.
The vision was to design quality 'everyday' clothing (think basic tees, easy sweaters and comfortable day dresses) that would be produced by skilled garment makers who would be paid fairly for their workmanship. Producing in small batches would allow J&E to work directly with families instead of factories, to know exactly how much workers were being paid and to build genuine lasting relationships; the stories then could be shared with customers.
